I am a single parent of two children ages 16 and 7. This alone is a large responsibility and has its challenges.
However, I am also the mother of a special needs child, "Noah".
My 7-year-old son Noah was born with an imperforate anus, grade V reflux, nephrohidrosis, and polycystic kidneys. Because
of the imperforated anus, which is a malformation of the intestinal tract with varying degrees of congenital absence of the
anus and lower end of the bowel. Immediately after his birth, Noah required a colostomy, which is a surgical procedure that
allows doctors to re-route his fecal matter. This surgery replaced the anus at the distal opening of his gastrointestinal
tract. This was required to produce a functional, artificial anus by making an opening from the colon through the abdominal
wall.
Within 6 months, his doctors discovered Noah also had a grade V reflux. A grade V reflux occurs when there is a defect
in the urinary tract, such as a faulty valve between the bladder and the urethra, and instead of the urine flowing through
the urethra out of the body, some of the urine flows back up to the kidney, causing bruising of the kidney and most often
urinary tract infections.
Noah has had numerous urinary tract infections to the point he had another surgery, a ueterotomy. This procedure involved
making an opening from the urethra to the abdominal wall, allowing urine to flow through the abdominal wall, allowing the
kidney to heal, and this also helped prevent urinary tract infections. These medical problems, along with several others,
caused Noah to see doctors and be hospitalized more than 116 times in a 5-year period.
Along with With Noahs needs, I am a student. The expenses of medical supplies, medical bills, school/research expenses
and normal living expenses, I am behind in every bill I have, and live very nervously from pay check t o paycheck. Any donations
would be a tremendous help and a form of relief for my family and me.
